“The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still” – Exodus 14:14
Last year God called me to step out on faith and do an internship at Hillsong Church, Cape Town. This will entail me working for church for a year without receiving any remuneration. This sounded so crazy to some people because I was about to finish a degree in law and instead of finishing I took a different route. I always wanted to do this internship but I imagined myself doing it when I had the degree in the bag.
It was both easy and hard for me to step out. It was easy because I was at a point where I was trying to complete the law degree through my own strength, which was tiring and it was hard because I wouldn’t have any secure financial support.
From the first day I landed in Cape Town this journey has not been the easiest. I left home with confidence that accommodation has been set, but everything went south with accommodation when I arrived at the airport – thank God I have a friend who welcomed me to stay at her place. I have gone from thinking I having everything figured out to God taking me on a different path. I will say that it has not been easy going through the tests but I can confidently say that God has been on my side from day one and I mean from the day that He formed me in my mother’s womb.
God’s plan will come to you as a surprise and it is an exciting journey to do life God’s way. To do life the way God planned it to be.
At first what God calls us to do may sound strange but trusting God, regardless of the mission, should be the next step that we take. Fear of stepping out shrinks our faith, fear does not allow us to stand firmly in faith. Being worried about the next step is saying that God has not already made a way for you.
Let’s look at what the Bible says:
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil for you are with me; your rod and staff, they comfort me.” This is a word which tells you that God will be there for you.
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.” Seek God and you will see that God will help you through that challenge or that fear of doing something that He has called you out to do.
“The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” With God on your side no one can harm you
A friend of mine says “do it afraid”, when doing something new. When going the way that God has called you to go or a place that is unfamiliar, it may seem almost impossible at first but we should never forget that we’re doing it with a God who said that He will never leave us of forsake us.
God is for us and not against us, so as His children we should be obedient to His call because only God knows how we can live our best life.
I will share more of my journey as the year goes by, I really hope that this encourages you. Fear is something that I battle with almost daily but I know that I cannot let the enemy play around with me like that. Remind yourself of God’s word and pray about it, talk to God about the things that are on your heart, even telling God about what you fear. Sincerely seeking God and this will bring you so much comfort!
With care and love,
