This is one of my favorite chapters from the book of Psalm. Theses verses speak into different areas of my life, one of them is my friendships.
I’ve never recognized anyone as my best friend, well before I read the first verse. I think this was because I always expected a best friend to be absolutely flawless – the perfect match. There was a high standard that I had set for this best friend, but in the midst of me shutting people out and limiting people’s presence in my life, God chose to be my best friend. Despite my imperfections, despite me not knowing who I truly am, God still chose me. The fact that I can call God my best friend, makes me want to love people regardless of how they’ve treated me and now I love people because I know that I am loved. My cup overflows because I know that God loves and I can love people that fullness in my heart.
“The Lord is my best friend and my shepherd. I always have more than enough. He offers a resting place for me in his luxurious love. His tracks take me to an oasis of peace, the quiet brook of bliss. That’s where he restores and revives my life. He opens before me pathways to God’s pleasure and leads me along in his footsteps of righteousness so that I can bring honor to his name. Lord, even when your path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness, fear will never conquer me, for you already have! You remain close to me and lead me through it all the way. Your authority is my strength and my peace. The comfort of your love takes away my fear. I’ll never be lonely, for you are near. You become my delicious feast even when my enemies dare to fight. You anoint me with the fragrance of your Holy Spirit; you give me all I can drink of you until my heart overflows. So why would I fear the future? For your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life. Then afterward, when my life is through, I’ll return to your glorious presence to be forever with you!”
Thank you for reading this post, I just hope that you will leave with the confidence that God is always there for you. This chapter has led me to pursue a better relationship with God by being intentional about our relationship. I think of things that I would do with my best friend and I try do that with God, even if it’s an ice-cream date. Spending time with God will grow your relationship with God, and that’s how your trust in God will grow.
